Nathan Wade cancels major in-person network interview, citing family emergency

Special prosecutor Nathan Wade reportedly canceled an in-person interview on NBC’s Meet the Press late Saturday night, citing a family emergency.

The program announced the change in its post to X, explaining that Wade confirmed the interview for the following Sunday morning broadcast late Saturday afternoon. Meet the Press said the show “will proceed as planned” with the broadcast’s original lineup featuring Ben Cardin, Bill Cassidy and Jose Andres.

The embattled special counsel was at the center of an investigation into alleged fraud by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is prosecuting former President Trump for allegedly interfering in Georgia’s 2020 election. Willis hired Wade as special prosecutor on the case, but many argued that Wade was unqualified for the job and that it was because of their romantic relationship.

The co-defendants in the case claim that Willis had a financial interest in hiring Wade because they were already in a relationship and took him on trips when he hired him in 2021. claimed to have obtained it.both Wade and Willis denied The two had been romantically involved before he was hired, and had said they would split the cost of their joint trips. Willis claimed he paid the money back in cash.

On Friday, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled that either Willis or Wade must step down for the case against Trump to proceed. Hours later, Mr. Wade announced his resignation in a letter to Mr. Willis, saying he was resigning “in the interest of democracy.”

McAfee ruled that the defendants “failed to meet their burden of proving that the district attorney had an actual conflict of interest in this case through his personal relationship with the lead prosecutor and his repeated business trips.” .
