It’s been years since the Washington Nationals were a real threat in major league baseball, and discontent seems to be boiling over.
In the top of the second inning against the lowly Miami Marlins, Miami catcher Nick Fortes hit a chopped ball down the third base line, which Nick Senzel made a backhanded catch.
Senzel made a long throw, but Fortes got a step beyond it, and the runner on third base scored to give the Marlins an early 1-0 lead.

The broadcast team quickly wondered if Senzel could have thrown it “harder than that.”
Apparently, pitcher MacKenzie Gore felt the same way, approaching Senzel in the dugout after the inning.
Senzel and Gore were in high spirits, talking to each other, when Senzel shoved Gore. Teammates held Gore back and shoved him away before things got any worse. Even Lane Thomas seemed to side with Senzel, ordering Gore to move away.
But that seemed to motivate the Nationals, as they scored seven runs in the third inning and went on to win 8-1.

Gore ended up pitching seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out 10.
After the game, Senzel remained silent about the conflict, saying it was “none of my business.”
“It’s a situation. We’ve dealt with it internally. What stays here stays here. That’s it,” he said. “We’re competitors. We’ve dealt with it.”
Gore also accepted responsibility.
“That’s something I can’t do. That’s my responsibility. Here it is, we’ve worked it out,” he said.
