Peter Navarro, a trade adviser at the White House, expressed his dissatisfaction on Friday regarding Elon Musk’s departure. When asked if he was pleased to see Musk go, Navarro responded, “People come and go from the White House,” implying it’s somewhat of a regular occurrence.
He touched upon the matter of masks, noting his role as a special government employee in a limited capacity. Additionally, Navarro mentioned that he and others at the government’s efficiency advisory office are involved in some significant projects, although he didn’t clarify exactly what those entail.
“We’ve implemented an important computer program,” Navarro stated, likening it to the costly IBM punch card system from the 1950s. He added, “We plan to evolve that from a Model T to a Ferrari.” It’s a bold claim, although how achievable that is remains to be seen.
The relationship between Navarro and Musk hasn’t always been smooth, particularly around topics like tariffs and the operations of Tesla. Earlier this year, Musk criticized Navarro on social media, calling him “really stupid” after Navarro referred to Tesla in a way that Musk found dismissive.
Moreover, their disputes over tariffs have created divisions, with Navarro noting that many believed tariffs were fundamentally misguided. Meanwhile, an escalating online spat between Musk and former President Trump took a more personal turn recently. Musk had labeled a congressional spending bill as a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled” endeavor, which drew disappointment from Trump.
During an Oval Office meeting, Trump didn’t hold back his discontent with Musk’s comments, stating he was “extremely disappointed” given the support he had provided Musk in the past.
In a somewhat dramatic twist, Trump speculated that Musk might be missing his time in the White House, even bringing up a controversial connection to Jeffrey Epstein, further complicating the already tense atmosphere.
