Blue Angels Flyover Sparks Mixed Reactions
After a dramatic low-altitude flight by the Navy’s Blue Angels over a Florida beach caught public attention, Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Kao announced that the flight report had been finalized without any plans for disciplinary action. He noted that there was “no problem” with the operation.
“This is the sound of freedom! Semper Fi and Hoya,” Kao expressed in a tweet after footage of the flyover went viral.
Many people, including Army Secretary Pete Hegseth and various Trump supporters, shared their thoughts on social media about the incident.
Footage circulating online showed beachgoers cheering as two Blue Angels jets flew low over Pensacola Beach. Responses varied widely on social media, with some praising the display and others criticizing its execution.
Interestingly, Hegseth remarked on X that “high-flying flights will continue until morale improves.”
Additionally, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell posted a photo of one of the jets in action, encouraging, “Carry on Patriots.”
Eric Trump also weighed in, sharing an ABC News report indicating that Navy officials stated there would be a safety review of the circumstances surrounding the event. However, the Blue Angels didn’t respond to requests for comment.
The flyover occurred during the traditional “Breakfast with the Blues” event, which signifies the start of Red, White, and Blue Week—allowing audiences to witness the Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron practice over the Gulf Coast.
This year’s event attracted a larger crowd than in recent memory, with parking lots filling up early and thousands of spectators lining the beaches to watch the Blue Angels practice for this weekend’s airshow. One long-time attendee, Brenda Bennett, noted, “I’ve been coming here since 1997, and this has to be the biggest secret, but I think it’s out now because there are more people than usual.”
Another pair of attendees, Theresa Smith and Sheri Marinovich, said they had to walk a bit farther to reach the beach due to the crowd size, but found it worth it. They noted how close the action felt and enjoyed the behind-the-scenes interaction that differed from the formal show.
Many in attendance felt this gathering was particularly special, especially following the recent America 250 celebration. Bennett shared her hope that Americans continue to honor “the freedoms we have here in the United States.”
The Blue Angels are set to practice again Thursday before their performances on Friday and Saturday.
