NBA commissioner says he could ban player from league amid gambling probe: ‘It’s cardinal sin’

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Tuesday that if Jontay Porter is found to have placed bets on the NBA, especially himself, he could be banned from the sport.

The Toronto Raptors forward is under investigation after the NBA uncovered “multiple gambling irregularities.”

“I’ve been given a very wide range of discipline,” Silver said Tuesday. “What he is accused of in the NBA is a mortal sin. The ultimate extreme option I have is to ban him from the game. There is nothing more serious than this, so I have here That’s the level of authority.”

The investigation stems from prop bets Porter was involved in in two games: against the Los Angeles Clippers on January 26th and against the Phoenix Suns on March 20th.

ESPN provided a detailed explanation of the situation surrounding Porter starting with the game against Porter on January 26th. clippersduring which an “increase in betting interest” was found in the under of Porter’s prop bets.

Pregame, over/under prop bets were made for Porter in points (5.5), rebounds (4.5), assists (1.5) and three-pointers made (0.5).

The Raptors said Porter is averaging 13.8 minutes per game this season, but played just four minutes before re-aggravating his eye injury. All of Prop’s bets were on the under, resulting in no points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 0 3-point shots.

ESPN added that DraftKings Sportsbook reported that Porter’s 3-pointer from under was the “biggest prize-winner for those betting on NBA player props in that night’s game.” DraftKings Sportsbook once again reported on March 20 that Porter’s under is the NBA’s biggest earner.

Then, in a game against the Suns, Porter had an over/under prop bet of 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. Porter played just three minutes and had to leave due to illness. He missed just one shot attempt and didn’t score, but he did grab two rebounds.

Some sportsbooks have said they have been alerted to strange betting patterns surrounding props provided by Porter in these games, and this is because the league, which has business relationships with many betting companies, has received some of the same information. This means that you may have received.

Porter has not played since the investigation began, with Toronto citing personal reasons.
