NBA fans immediately overreacted to Victor Wembaneyama’s Spurs debut on Wednesday.
Wenbanyama, the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed 5 rebounds in 23 minutes in the 126-119 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
He added two assists, two steals and one block.
The 7-foot-4 French phenom had an impressive debut, but his minutes were somewhat limited due to foul trouble.
Social media showed no patience for the most hyped prospect since LeBron James entered the league 20 years ago.
Some people claimed to have a teenage sensibility. wasn’t aggressive enough in his first NBA game.
Wenbanyama’s debut match was a shock even to media personality Mike Golic.
“Victor Wenbanyama’s debut match was a lot like my golf.” Golic said. “It was enough to keep me coming back…I feel like I was tricked into watching the entire Spurs game.”
Reminder: It was the Spurs’ first game of the 2023-24 season.

As a rookie getting acclimated to a new league, Wembaneyama will obviously have to grow and learn the ropes under head coach Gregg Popovich.
Wenbangyama came back in the fourth quarter and scored nine of his 15 points.
The former Metropolitans 92 player looked ready to go when facing two perennial All-Stars in Mavericks guards Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
Doncic spoke highly of Wenbanyama.
“Honestly, he was great, coming off the bench.” Doncic said. After recording a triple-double with 33 points. “This was his first official NBA game and he was great.
“I remember my first fight and I was pretty nervous, but he didn’t look like that, so he’s going to get better from here.”
Popovich praised the star rookie’s improvement, especially in the final minutes.
“I think he showed his maturity, even at such a young age, by coming on with seven minutes left and just playing in a situation where a lot of players would have completely passed out.” Mr. Popovich said:.
The Spurs return to action on Friday when they host the Rockets.
