NBA hits Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards with fifth fine of season

Anthony Edwards is one of the highest-paid players in the NBA, but his wallet has taken another hit.

The league fined the Minnesota Timberwolves star $50,000 for what it described as an “obscene gesture.” The NBA determined that the gesture in question was directed at the referee. The suspension brings his total fine for the season to $285,000.

He has been penalized five times this season for various conduct violations, most of them due to language.

Edwards, the top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, signed a five-year extension as a rookie after the 2022-23 season. The following year, he earned All-NBA honors and a five-year contract worth $224 million.

In announcing the punishment, the league cited Edwards' actions with 1:26 left in the third quarter of Saturday's 127-125 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Edwards, a two-time All-Star in his fifth season, came off the bench with 2 minutes, 25 seconds left. He received his ninth technical foul of the season, an NBA record, while on the bench.

During December, he was banned for $100,000 for profanity in a live television interview, $75,000 for profane public criticism of an umpire, and $25,000 for profanity in a media interview. Ta. In November, he was fined $35,000 for indecent behavior in court.

Edwards finished last weekend's loss to the Grizzlies with 15 points. The Troubles enter Monday night's game against the Washington Wizards with a 20-18 record and are in eighth place in the Western Conference standings.
