NBA Investigates Fans’ Profane Remarks During Game 1
The NBA is looking into an incident involving two courtside fans who allegedly directed profane comments at New York Knicks player Jalen Brunson during Game 1 of the NBA Finals at Frostbank Center on Wednesday night.
As reported, these fans accused Brunson of, well, let’s say, not living up to their expectations. The taunts reportedly started with about 20 seconds remaining in the game, as the Knicks held a substantial lead.
After the game, Brunson, who is 29, approached referee Scott Foster. He described what had happened and requested that action be taken. It seems that Foster, being nearby, overheard the comments aimed at Brunson.
The broadcast captured a moment where Brunson was seen speaking to the fans, and Foster intervened, pulling him away from his teammate Jose Alvarado to deescalate the situation.
Later in the fourth quarter, after making a shot, Brunson was spotted pointing at the fans—definitely indicating his frustration.
Despite the distractions, Brunson didn’t let the fans affect his performance too much. He scored 13 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Knicks seal a 105-95 victory over the Spurs.
Now, Brunson didn’t have the best shooting night overall; he finished at 12-of-31 from the field and only managed 2-of-9 from beyond the arc. Yet, when it mattered most, he stepped up and contributed crucial plays along with three rebounds and two assists.
The Knicks will be looking to maintain their momentum in Game 2 against the Spurs this Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
