Knicks Secure Narrow Win Against Mavericks Amid Controversy

The New York Knicks managed to secure a close 113-111 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night, but not without some debate about an offensive foul call in the game’s final minute.

With just about three seconds left on the clock, Mavericks guard Brandon Williams received the ball around mid-court, making a run towards the basket while Knicks player Landry Shamet was right beside him. Williams seemingly got past Shamet and made a shot that the crowd believed would tie the game, complete with a foul call.

However, the foul was called against Williams. NBA officials stated that he hooked his arm around a Knicks defender as he moved toward the basket. Replays captured Williams’ left arm around Shamet’s waist, which stirred further discussion.

This left many NBA fans pondering whether the call was indeed correct.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd shared his perspective on the final play, stating, “Great performance. Great catch. Great pass (to Derek Lively II). It was a great play. It was a tough call. He had a good look. They called a foul.”

Meanwhile, Knicks star Jalen Brunson, making a return after missing two games due to an ankle sprain, scored 28 points against his former team. Reflecting on the game, Brunson said, “It’s chaotic. At the same time, we found a way to win. It was ugly. When you get an ugly win, it’s a sign that the team is learning and getting better. No matter the situation, we have to find a way to win.”

Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns had an impressive night as well, contributing 18 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart both scored 16 points, helping the Knicks improve their record to 9-5.

On the other side, Mavericks forward Naji Marshall led his team with 23 points off the bench, while Max Christie added 15 points and Klay Thompson contributed 13 points.
