Knicks and Pistons trade for Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks
The New York Knicks have acquired Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons. Around Woj. The Pistons acquired Quentin Grimes, Evan Fournier, Malachi Flynn, and two second-round picks. Around Woj.
Knicks trade grade:B+
piston trade grade:B+
I like this on both sides. The Knicks got a 6-foot-8 knockdown shooter in Bogdanovic and a great bench scorer in Burks to help them make the playoffs. Bogdanovic is hopeless defensively at this point in his career, but he is capable of a high-volume three-up that should help the Knicks offense. For the Pistons, acquiring Grimes is a good bet, even if he looks a little redundant compared to the young players already on the roster. Grimes looked promising with the Knicks last season, but struggled with his shot this year, and he’s still just 23 years old. Bogdanovic and Burks will help the Knicks in their quest to advance to the NBA Finals in the East.
Mavericks and Wizards’ Daniel Gafford swap grades
The Dallas Mavericks acquire Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards. According to Woj, the Wizards will receive Richaun Holmes and draft compensation.
mabs grade:B+
wizard grade:B
Daniel Gafford can do two things. A blocked shot and a powerful dunk off the ball. Gafford has a whopping 6.6 percent block rate this season and has already made 94 dunks in just 45 games. Luka Doncic could unleash him as a lob threat on offense, and Dallas could also use some extra rim protection. Gafford will need to remain more disciplined defensively to really make an impact in important games, but this is a great addition for Dallas heading into the playoffs.
Gordon Hayward of Thunder and Hornets swap grades
Oklahoma City Thunder acquires Gordon Hayward from Charlotte Hornets. Hornets acquire Tre Mann and Davis Bertans Around Woj.
thunder grade:A-
hornets grade:B
Hayward is still a good player when healthy and in a small role. He gives the Thunder a 6-foot-7, 225-pound wing who can dribble, pass and shoot and has real playoff experience. Mann had fallen out of favor in OKC’s rotation, but his pull-up shooting ability and tight handle made him a decent bet for Charlotte. Hayward would be a great veteran addition for the Thunder as they look to make the playoffs. If he can continue to hit his 36% of threes like he has so far, OKC has just found a versatile chess piece that can compete in a decent postseason matchup.
76ers and Pacers’ Buddy Hield swap grades
philadelphia 76ers Acquired Buddy Hield from the Indiana Pacers. Around Woj. The Pacers acquired Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz, and three second-round picks.
76ers grade:A
pacers grade😀
Hield is one of the best high-volume three-point shooters of all time, and his value goes beyond his shooting percentage from deep. With a quick trigger and unlimited range, his Shield brings great power to every attack. The space he provides is a big reason why the Pacers currently have the most efficient offense in league history. In Philadelphia, Hield has great chemistry with Joel Embiid on the floor, helping the team in maximizing his shot profile while MVP is out. Daryl Morey understands the math behind winning, and Heald will help him get there. Even if Hield didn’t want to be in Indiana after this year — he requested a trade at the beginning of the season — I still don’t understand why the Pacers did this. Hield has been a huge part of the team’s success this year, and even with young replacements like Benedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard available, Hield will be missed.
Raptors and Jazz Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji exchange grades
toronto raptors Acquired Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji utah jazz. According to Woj, the Jazz will receive Kira Lewis, Otto Porter, and a 2024 first-round pick. Select details here.
jazz grade:A-
raptors grade:C
Danny Ainge can’t keep running away like this. Jazz executives acquired Kelly Olynyk on an expiring contract and another first-round pick for dominant former lottery pick Ochai Agbaji. Toronto must either love Agbaji or think they can flip Olynyk today. Otherwise, this deal wouldn’t make much sense for the Raptors. Toronto is set to send a very late first round pick in this disappointing 2024 NBA Draft, and it appears they don’t value that pick. Ainge believes he can find contributors, even if it’s late. Olynyk is a great player for the Jazz and could help a championship contender, but the Raptors are struggling to keep the top-six protected pick they owe to the Spurs. There’s bound to be another new pair of shoes coming to Toronto. The Jazz continue to run a healthy organization under Ainge.
Timberwolves and Pistons’ Monte Morris swap grades
minnesota timberwolves Acquired Monte Morris from detroit pistons. The Pistons will receive Shake Milton, Troy Brown Jr., and a 2030 second-round pick.
timberwolves grade:B-
piston grade:B
The Timberwolves needed a backup point guard for Mike Conley, but was this really the best they could do? Morris is a good caretaker of the basketball and will limit turnovers, but he is very undersized and is not a scoring threat. I’m skeptical that Morris can really help the Timberwolves offense in key moments and wonder if there were better options. Still, give the Timberwolves credit for filling their biggest need, even if it wasn’t the flashiest move.
Simone Fontecchio trades grades and signs with Pistons and Jazz
The Detroit Pistons have acquired Simone Fontequo from the Utah Jazz. The Jazz will acquire Kevin Knox, the draft rights to Gabriele Proceda, and a 2024 second-round pick from the Wizards.
piston grade:B+
jazz grade:A
Fontecchio is a big forward who can stretch the floor, which in itself would be a big help for the Pistons. Detroit’s spacing was the worst of any team in the league, which put the pillars of the young franchise in a tough position to succeed. The pick Utah gets here will be fairly early in the second round, likely No. 32 overall, which is a great asset for a team like the Jazz that still cycles through young talent. Ainge has been able to extract true value from players heading into free agency who don’t need to be retained long-term like Fontecchio. I think Fontecchio is a great fit for Detroit, but I wonder if they really had to give up a second round pick so early to get him when they could have signed him in the offseason. is.
Xavier Tillman trades performance to Celtics, Grizzlies
boston celtics Acquired Xavier Tillman from the Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies will receive a 2027 second-round pick from the Hawks and a 2030 second-round pick from the Mavericks.
celtics grade:A-
grizzlies grade:B-
The Celtics needed another big man, and Tillman is a great player to acquire on the cheap.former michigan EPM ranks the product as one of the best defenders in the league this year. The flip side is that Tillman isn’t a true offensive threat, which makes you wonder how much value he’ll have in the playoffs. Still, Tillman is insurance against injuries to Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis, and it’s unclear how much better Boston could have done here for a couple of second-rounders. Memphis will need to find its center of the future in the offseason after trading Tillman and Steven Adams.
