NBA trade deadline instant grades for every 2025 major deal made as they happen

The 2025 NBA trade deadline will be remembered forever in a transaction made just a few days before the buzzer. Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Marvelix They completed the trade of the century by swapping Anthony Davis and Luka Donsic over the weekend. The NBA has since found Khris Middleton, Kyle Kuzma, Zach Lavine and De'aaron Fox all found new homes, and Mavericks has made another suspicious transaction a few days after Doncic's deal.

The 2025 NBA trade deadline is 3pm on Thursday, February 6th, and there should be some more surprising deals up until then. We track each 2025 NBA trade deadline agreement in a separate post. Also, we will score all the large transactions here.

Jimmy Butler's trade drama is finally over. The Lakers made another all-in move after Donkic's deal. Will someone pay Cameron Johnson? Grade each transaction at the 2025 NBA trade deadline.

De'andre Hunter Trade Cavs Grade with the Hawks

The Cavaliers will acquire DeAndre Hunter from the Hawks for Charis Leverts, Georges Nian, three second round picks and two first round pick swaps. Siamese.

Cavs grade: a-

Hawks Grade:b

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been the NBA's biggest surprise team this season, and they are about to put a hot start into the championship. One hole in Cleveland's roster is the big wings that can protect the floor and make room for as a shooter, and Hunter is just that. Hunter has gone from being a disappointing top-5 draft pick to becoming a breakout player for his sixth season in the league with the Hawks. He averages a career-high 19 points per game, shooting from three to 39.3%. He's only average as a defender, but Cleveland has enough length and shot blocking behind him, giving him a chance. It's easy to imagine Hunter defending Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown deep in the playoffs.

Losing Levert hurts a little. He was burning as a shooter this year (3-40.5%), but he struggles to score on the rim, and his impressive defensive metric feels like a product from the Cleveland system. . Atlanta sold high sales on the Hunter on this deal, but they still haven't regained their first round pick. You'll be surprised if you're going through one of these swaps as Cleveland has an incredible team. Is this enough to win the Cavs in the NBA Finals? Who knows, but don't give up and make them better, and that's all you can ask for.

The Lakers Hornets trade grades with Mark Williams of the Dalton Knecht Deal

The Lakers will acquire Hornets' Mark Williams for Dalton Necht, Come Reddish, unprotected 2031 first round pick, and 2030 pix swap. Siamese.

Lakers Grade:b-

Hornets Grade: a-

This feels like a rare deal that is very dangerous for both parties. Williams missed a year's recovery from an injury and has only played 85 games in his first three NBA seasons. He is also 23 years old, truly the type of giant mobile shot blocker and rim finisher LA type. Williams is one of the longest players in the NBA with a 9'9 standing reach and a 7'7 wing span. He scored over 22 points per 36 minutes this year, surpassing 63.5% true shooting. He is primarily an attacking lob catcher, but shows some touches around the range of the floater. His defensive metrics are terrible, but maybe that's because Charlotte's defense was such a disaster this year. He is expected to lock down LA's defenses for years to come.

This is the Hornets that sells high on players who have been very good for a month and become an extension after the season. Williams certainly fits right next to Donsic, but I think the Lakers would prefer to save 2031 Pick and Knecht to use it on a true secondary all-star. This is very much on both sides of the boom or bust trade. Williams has a great opportunity with Don Sic in Los Angeles. It is also possible that he will not be able to stay on the floor. The Lakers suffer because they don't have enough assets to build a good team around Donsic. This is a bit dangerous for me in the early Luca era, but it shows the vision of LA.

Raptors, the Pelican Grade of Brandon Ingram Trade

The Raptors will win Brandon Ingram for Blues Brown, Kelly Oric, first round pick and second round pick of 2026 pacers from the New Orleans Pelicans. Siamese.

Raptors Grade:C+

Pelican grade:a

Read the complete breakdown of Ingram trading here. The Raptors are obsessed with making bad deals at deadlines. This is the fourth consecutive year that we had a very suspicious transaction in February. Ingram is a talented scorer, but I don't know how he fits into his long-term vision in Toronto. He also needs a new contract this summer, and that Raptors' roster looks to be very expensive, very quickly, for such a submid team. The Pelicans went well here to win the Pacers' first round of 2026 on this deal. Toronto feels like he's racing the play-in tournament again when he re-signs Ingram. Woohoo.

Warrior adds trade results for Jimmy Butler's trade

Golden State Warriors Get Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat for Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroeder, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters II, top 10 protected first round picks. Siamese. Find out more and trade results here.

Warriors Grade: a-

Thermal grade:b+

Read my trade grades of Butler and Warrior trading here. Butler is a proven playoff riser who plays the best basketball when it matters most. Golden State gave him a two-year extension in addition to this deal. This feels like the most dangerous part of the 35-year-old trade. The Warriors' defense should be better with Butler and Draymond Green sharing the floor, but their size and spacing are now a major offensive concern. The Warriors can't play non-shoot centers with these two, right? It's Steve Kerr's job to fit the pieces, but this is a clear talent upgrade that the Warriors had badly needed during another mediocre season. I also think this was a good return for Miami and got a useful player in Wiggins and Golden State's 2025 first round pick.

Kings trade grade for Jonas Valanciunas trade

Sacramento Kings Get Jonas Valanciuna Washington Wizard For Sidy Cissoko and the second pick, Via Shams.

Kings Grade:b

Wizard Grade:b+

Valanciunas has started more than 90% of their career games since being drafted into the league, but is planning to back up Domantas Sabonis in Sacramento. He can still bring physical scoring touches and rebounds, but his three-point shot was arrested entirely this year. The Kings wanted to remain competitive after trading Dearon Fox. Getting Valanciuna a few days after landing Zach Lavine helps with that. I don't think this Kings team will go anywhere this season with a brutal Western Conference. The wizard basically signs Valenciunas in the summer to trade him, and gets a decent prospect of two seconds with French wing Sidi Sissoko is a great piece.

Lakers-Mavericks trades the trade results of Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis Blockbuster

Lakers Grade:a+

Mavericks Grade:D+

Read my Lakers Mavericks trade grade here and check out the extended winners and losers of Doncic-Davis Swap. A few days after I released the story, I wondered whether anything other than F was too kind to Dallas GM Nico Harrison. I think Mavs should be pretty good with Davis in place for the next few years, but it's better to add talented ball handlers and playmakers as soon as possible to help Kyrie Irving. This is easier for the Lakers in the next five to ten years or so than this year.

Spurs King trades Zack Lavine Deal, Dearon Fox grades

Spurs Grade: a-

Kings Grade:a

Bulls Grade:c-

For full details of the deal that sent De'aaron Fox to Spurs, King Zach Labine, read the full trade grade and return Chicago for the 2025 first round pick. The Spurs did well to get Fox without breaking the bank on the chest of their assets. Landing Labine chooses a Sacramento coup in addition to two precious future first rounds. And you can claim that he is the best player in this deal. The Bulls continue to be one of the worst franchises in the league, trading the best players for draft picks that shouldn't be lost (1-10 this year, 1-8 protection for the next two years) If you play the card correctly.

Quenting Rimes and Caleb Martin Swap's Mavs-76ers Grade

MAVS Grade:c

76ers Grade year:a

Read the full trade grade of Grimes-Martin Swap. This sent the early 2025 second round pick to the Sixers. The Grimes are an offensive player and are much younger, so Dallas had to throw a good second pick to get his contract done. Dallas wanted Martin's vibrant perimeter defense and cost-controlled contracts, but Grimes needs a new contract this summer. This is a good move in the Sixers margin. I don't know what Nico Harrison is doing yet.

Bucks trades grades of Kyle Kuzma-Khris Middleton Swap

Dollar grade:C+

Wizard Grade: a

Read our trade grades for the transactions that sent Kuzma to Milwaukee here. The Bucks made this trade and fell from the second athlon to the first apron of luxury tax, while adding a young and healthy player. Kuzma has been awful this season, but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned it around in Milwaukee's competitive situation. Middleton will become very available in the trade market due to his short stint in Washington. The Wizard, who got his 2028 pix swap with AJ Johnson, is pretty good before considering what he gets to turn Middleton over.

I'll update this story as it develops.
