With less than three days left until the NBA trade deadline (Thursday, February 8th at 3:00 PM ET), it’s time to check out the latest NBA trade rumors from various parties around the organization.
Will the Bucks and Mavs trade for Bobby Portis and Grant Williams?
Arguably the most unexpected rumor of the day came from veteran NBA reporter Marc Stein. Reported in his latest Substack column The Mavericks and Bucks said they had “preliminary discussions about a trade for Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis Jr. and Dallas rookie Grant Williams,” but added that “it remains to be seen whether negotiations progress to something more serious.” I don’t know,” he added.
But shortly thereafter, he updated the article to include details of the stalled negotiations.
A source briefed on the process confirmed discussions between the teams after this article was posted, suggesting that Milwaukee is reluctant to trade Portis and Williams directly. He said this means the simple one-for-one trade structure will likely need to be expanded to include other teams. Players can proceed with these negotiations.
So it doesn’t sound imminent, but that may be part of the reason – from Yahoo Audio “Good Words with Good Intentions” Podcast Earlier in the day – Williams isn’t Milwaukee’s only potential target.
On the show, Jake Fisher yahoo sports The Bucks are reportedly actively looking to upgrade their defense across the league.
“If there’s a perimeter, defensive-minded player that they think they could get for $8 million to $12 million, I can guarantee you that Milwaukee has that on the board and they’re in that price range. You’d be evaluating how much it would be compared to other options. I’m told they are ‘actively shopping’ to find that last piece that could be their true perimeter defender. ”
Portis ($11.7 million) and Pat Connaughton ($9.4 million) are the only two players in that price range for Milwaukee to match their salaries, so consider those players likely to leave. Grant Williams makes just over $12.4 million, which would make a one-for-one trade for Portis legal, but it doesn’t necessarily seem like a deal that would get negotiations over the finish line without additional pieces.
Part of that may be because, when informed of reports of this transaction among us, Brew Hoop site manager Van Fayaz simply replied, “God help me.” To give you a sense of how some people in Milwaukee feel about this kind of movement.
Bulls want ‘OG Anunoby-type package’ if moving Alex Caruso
The Bulls continue to chase the NBA’s play-in game revenue, but there appears to be little interest in moving Alex Caruso just yet. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports. latest episode As for his eponymous “The Woj Pod”, what are they looking for if they were to make him available:
“If they’re going to trade Caruso, that’s what they want.” a lot for him. “It’s like an OG Anunoby kind of deal,” I was told. And I think he would fit anywhere, and there are a lot of teams that would love to get Alex Caruso. That guy influences winning. But the Bulls know that, and the Bulls aren’t really trying to get bad and are in the play-ins. ”
That’s right, the Bulls really don’t want to be in bad shape.they want to be usually bad. Mission accomplished as they finished 9th in the conference with 23 wins and 27 losses. Still, all signs point to him probably not moving, as Caruso can help the team chase that sweet “one play-in game at the United Center” income.
(Also, as a side note, Bulls resident fan and associate director of programming Ricky O’Donnell said that a package like OG Anunoby’s is simply “a bad contract, a talented young player who someone doesn’t want to pay for.”) (And yes, that’s pretty much what Anunoby was aiming for, so maybe Caruso is actually available)
Either way, at least there will be some veterans who can win right now. because…
Bruce Brown and Kelly Olynyk are likely candidates.
In the same podcast quoted above, Fisher said: lakers and knicks The two teams continue their relationship with the Raptors in a re-trade for Bruce Brown, who was acquired in the Pascal Siakam deal. But regardless of which team (or another) Brown goes to, Woj, meanwhile, added on “The Woj Pod” that Brown will likely be suspended again at the deadline.
“Bruce Brown from Toronto, there’s a very good chance he’ll move.”
on the other hand, Latest ESPN “The Lowe Post” PodcastInsider Zach Lowe said the Jazz are “increasingly interested” in trading trade machine mainstay Kelly Olynyk.
“It came up over the weekend, but it’s just a rumor that I heard…suggests that (Utah) is more willing to move Kelly Olynyk for the right price. Other teams. A GM once said, “I’d be surprised if they didn’t move Kelly Olynyk at this point.” And this team wants to join Kelly Olynyk. ”
Considering all the deals that have fallen through so far and what kind of holding pattern most of the league seems to be in, these could realistically be the two best remaining players available . Brown is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league and can add instant momentum to contenders on that side of the ball (though his $22 million annual salary could make him difficult to move) Olynyk, on the other hand, is the type of floor-spacing big man that every contender covets.
Still, he likely won’t be the only player the contenders are chasing, as all of the leading teams want another two-way wing, and the Nets are the rare potential seller who appears to have too many.
many nets are on the block
While basically every report in every media outlet portrays the Nets as unwilling to part with versatile forward Mikal Bridges, it certainly seems like most of the rest of the team could be acquired for the right price. .
as part of him Massive information gathering starting MondayMichael Scott hoop hype They reported that while “Brooklyn doesn’t want to rebuild,” they may still be able to secure two of the other wings to provide the right package.
Wingers Brooklyn could move are Dorian Finney-Smith and Royce O’Neal. At last season’s trade deadline, Finney-Smith could have been traded for two first-round picks, league sources told HoopsHype. Officials said O’Neal could have been traded for a first-round pick at last year’s trade deadline.
Heading into Thursday’s deadline, rival executives are trading first-round picks and rotation players for Finney-Smith (who owes $14.9 million next season and a player option of $15.37 million for 2025-26) and multiple second-round picks. I continue to believe that he is suitable as a designated player. O’Neal, who becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, could be available for picks.
A similar incident was reported over the weekend. My colleague Bob Windrem is here at Nets Daily.“[Finney-Smith]is most likely to return a couple of second-rounders or a heavily guarded first-rounder and a player,” he wrote.
But what could drive that price up is a bidding war, something that could happen if a few candidates miss out on top targets or become desperate, according to Scott’s report. It is suggested that there is a sex.
Finney-Smith has received a lot of interest on the trade market, including from playoff-level teams like the Lakers and Mavericks. With Jared Vanderbilt potentially out for the season, Finney-Smith is a versatile defensive forward who can fill the gap while spacing the floor, according to ESPN. The Mavericks have long been interested in reuniting with Finney-Smith, a close friend of franchise star Luka Doncic.
Other teams targeting Finney-Smith include the Bucks, Thunder, Suns and Kings, while O’Neal has attracted interest from the Mavericks, Nuggets, Pacers, Bucks, Timberwolves, Suns and Kings, according to the New York Post. It is said that there is
Will any of those teams be able to acquire either player, or the other, by the deadline? We’ll know in three days.
