NBA voice Kevin O’Connor leaving The Ringer for Yahoo Sports

NBA writer and podcaster Kevin O'Connor is leaving The Ringer after eight years.

According to information obtained by The Post, O'Connor will join Yahoo Sports, which has undergone a major revamp in recent months.

O'Connor has been with The Ringer since its launch in 2016 and has become a forceful voice in NBA discussions, unafraid to take tough stances on social media.

“The best personalities in sports media today are those who can reach fans across multiple platforms, and Kevin has that unique skill set,” said Sam Farber, head of content, Yahoo Sports. “He's a great writer, podcaster and has incredible talent in social media and video, making him a perfect fit for what we're building at Yahoo Sports, and we couldn't be more excited to have him join the team.”

People have responded to O'Connor's story, and her podcast, “Mismatched,” which she co-hosts with longtime Memphis-area personality Chris Vernon, has garnered a devoted following over the years.

“Kevin O'Connor has been an integral part of The Ringer's NBA coverage and we appreciate his work to date. We plan to announce new talent for The Ringer in the coming weeks,” a spokesperson for Spotify, The Ringer's parent company, told The Post in a statement.

The Post reported Thursday that former ESPN star Todd McShay is in serious negotiations to join The Ringer.

The deal hasn't been finalized yet.

Yahoo Sports has been on an acquisition spree recently under the direction of Faber and Ryan Spoon.

Spoon previously served as senior vice president of digital and social at ESPN and COO at BetMGM.

Yahoo Sports appointed him as president last July.

They recently hired top MMA announcer Ariel Helwani to launch the “Uncrowned” series, which will cover UFC as well as boxing and WWE.

Former Athletic and MMA Fighting editor Shaheen Al-Shatti has been named editor in chief, and writers Chuck Mindenhall and Ben Foulkes have joined the staff.

Yahoo also hired former college quarterback and football analyst Nate Theis, who split his time between Yahoo and The Athletic, as a full-time analyst under its umbrella in May.

Private equity firm Apollo Global Management acquired Yahoo from Verizon in 2021.
