Kevin Kisner, who just made his NBC Sports debut with the Sentry, joins fellow analyst Smiley Kaufman on his podcast. The two discussed many things, one of which was most hilarious moments Kaufman asked Kisner about playing with Phil Mickelson in the 2017 Presidents Cup.
On the Wednesday before the Liberty Golf Club event, Team USA captain Steve Stricker switched pods for the prize match. He entrusted Kisner to Mickelson, but Kisner questioned the decision.
“Literally before the game I thought I can't play with Phil. I hit every fairway and Phil couldn't hit any. I don't know how to play with that guy.” Kisner told Kaufman. “He said, 'Phil has an astronomer who graded all two teams and you got the highest grade. He just told us he won't play with anyone but you.'
The reason the switch was made became a classic quote from the former Georgia Bulldog.
“So I thought, 'Okay, this is the weirdest shit I've ever heard in my life,'” Kisner said. “So I said to Phil, 'What's up with this astronomer?'” “Not only that, Kiz, I want you to turn your belly towards me every time I take a shot. Because… All your energy comes from your stomach, so I can tap into your energy before the shot.”
Kisner went along with Mickelson's antics, and it paid off for them.
“Sure enough, he never forgets a thing, dude,” Kisner said. “Every time he goes to hit, he's like, 'Scratch! Scratch! Here! Stand here!'” “Hey, this is the weirdest shit I've ever done in my life. We missed one fairway in that game…He hit every fairway that was a tee ball…We drummed up J-Day.” [Jason Day] And Mark Leishman. ”

What makes this story even better is that Lefty acknowledged the incident in response to Kaufman's tweet.
Kisner and Mickelson posted a 2-0-1 record as a pair that week. He helped Team USA defeat the International Team 19-11.
This story is great because it shows how eccentric Mickelson is when it comes to golf.
