CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The mother of a missing North Carolina girl was charged in connection with her disappearance, pleaded guilty and was released from prison, all within two years of fleeing the United States.

Madalina Cojocari was last seen on November 21, 2022, when she stepped off a school bus in her hometown of Cornelius, just north of Charlotte. She was 11 years old. Despite Madalina's mother and stepfather telling police that they last saw their daughter at home on the night of November 23, 2022, her whereabouts remained until December 15, 2022. I did not report the unknown.

“That haunts me, and I can safely say that it does the same for all of our detectives and everyone who spent so much time on this case,” Cornelius Police Chief David Baucom told FOX. He told News Digital. “There were times like that in the early days. [the] Some didn't go home for 48 hours because they were working so hard on the investigation, following leads and everything else. Of course, that's only if it's sustainable for any person over the long term. But…she will never leave our hearts. ”

Madalina's mother, Diana Cojokari, and stepfather, Christopher Palmiter, were arrested and charged in 2022 with failing to report a missing child.

Princess Diana pleaded guilty in May, arguing that the time she had previously spent in prison had been enough time served.

After a week-long trial, a Mecklenburg County jury found Palmiter guilty on May 31 of failing to report a missing child to law enforcement and sentenced him to 30 months of supervised probation.
