WILMINGTON, N.C. — Enthusiastic attendees at a rally for former President Trump in North Carolina described themselves as infuriated by Democratic comments about the Republican candidate and said they were “praying for Trump to win” in November.

Trump held an outdoor campaign rally on Saturday in North Carolina, a battleground state where the Republican candidate narrowly won the 2020 presidential election.

Rally attendees spoke to Fox News Digital about why they came to Saturday's rally and how they feel about the current state of the 2024 election.

“We need Trump to save this country,” Sharon, from New Bern, North Carolina, told Fox News Digital.

Since July, two people have attempted to assassinate President Trump, one during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and the other on a golf course in Florida.

Some at the rally said they believed Democrats' rhetoric portraying Trump as a “threat” led to the assassination attempt on him.

“I think it's really terrible that they're continuing to do that,” one attendee said. “The next day they were still making false claims about him, saying he's a threat to democracy, and the campaign was full of lies. I just can't understand how anyone could support another administration like this.”
