Authorities in Texas have seized nearly 30 roosters following a major cockfighting ring investigation, officials said.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday that nine people were taken into custody and 20 vehicles and a trailer were towed.
A 30-pound rabbit in California was rescued from a slaughterhouse and is now a treatment animal at hospitals and airports.
The alleged cockfighting ring is associated with the 3090 block of Dry Creek Road in Lockhart, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities have cracked down on illegal activities in recent years.

In November, the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office announced that hundreds of people were participating in illegal cockfighting events.
The 250-pound “Gentle Giant” dog eats an entire chicken every day as his owner spends nearly $5,000 a year on food.
Deputies were also able to discover various gambling-related items, including dry erase boards that recorded various “fights/matches” between the birds. This indicates that about 44 matches/matches had already been played earlier in the day.
In April 2022, a man was attacked and killed by a rooster in Ireland. Jasper Krauss was allegedly attacked by a Brahma chicken that had been moved to his home in Ballinasloe after attacking a child.

Roosters have a history of attacking people.
