The Teamsters union, which represents more than 1 million members, released the results of a presidential poll of its members showing that about 60% of Teamsters support former President Donald Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.
According to a poll released Wednesday, the Teamsters' latest phone survey, conducted Sept. 9-15, 2024, found that 58% support Trump in the presidential election, while just 31% back Harris. About 6% are undecided and 5% are unsure.
A poll conducted between July 24 and Sept. 15, 2024, produced similar results, with more than 59% of Teamsters saying they support Trump and just 34% saying they support Harris. About 6.4% of Teamsters are considering other candidates.
Teamsters Leadership Written The union's executive is expected to announce its formal support for the presidential election on Wednesday.
“We are pleased to welcome this important step forward,” Teamsters President Sean M. O'Brien said in a statement.
Over the past year, the Teamsters union has pledged to conduct the most inclusive, democratic and transparent presidential confirmation process in the history of our 121-year-old organization, and today we are delivering on that promise to our members.
Our members are our members, and their voices and opinions must be at the forefront of everything the Teamsters do. Our final decision regarding a presidential endorsement is not made lightly, but will undoubtedly be determined directly by our diverse membership. [Emphasis added]
O'Brien spoke at the Republican National Convention (RNC) at the invitation of President Trump, but was declined by Harris to speak at the Democratic National Convention (DNC).
