Nearly Half of British Muslims Sympathise With Hamas, Survey Finds

Almost half of British Muslims say they sympathize with Hamas, but just four believe the Palestinian Islamist terrorist group committed the murders and rapes in the October 7 Israeli attack. Investigation revealed that there was only one person.

Six months after Hamas massacred around 1,200 people from Israel and took hundreds more hostage, the largest survey of Muslims living in Britain has revealed that the minority group It turned out that they were significantly out of step with each other.

The poll, commissioned by the Henry Jackson Society, an anti-extremism think tank, found that 46 per cent of British Muslims are sympathetic to Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist organization by the British and US governments.

Furthermore, only 24 per cent of British Muslims said they believed Hamas committed murder and rape in Israel on October 7, compared to 62 per cent of the general British public. Conversely, 39% of British Muslims said they did not believe Hamas had committed atrocities, and 37% said they did not know.

Surprisingly, the survey found that highly educated, young British Muslims were the least likely to believe that Hamas committed rape and murder during terrorist attacks, with 40 per cent of Muslims with a university degree , was found to be 47 percent of Muslims between the ages of 18 and 18. On the 24th, it denied any wrongdoing by Palestinian terrorists.

Henry Jackson Society Executive Director Alan Mendoza Said telegraph paper It said the findings showed “a long-standing failure of counter-extremism policies”.

“What’s probably wrong is that people don’t want to engage with this kind of extremism for fear of being labeled as Islamophobic or racist. “I’m as reluctant to condemn it as I am to condemn it,” he said.

“The government needs to find ways to support and strengthen moderate Muslim voices and sideline extremist voices.”

In fact, the government has focused on the relatively small threat posed by right-wing extremists, despite even Ken McCallum, head of MI5 domestic intelligence, admitting in 2020 that It has long been criticized for consuming thousands of resources and energy.[right-wing terror] Today, that threat is not on the same scale as radical Islamic terrorism…which remains our greatest threat quantitatively. ”

However, large-scale pro-Palestinian demonstrations featuring genocidal and anti-Semitic rhetoric have continued on the streets of Britain for months, and far-leftist George Galloway has won a parliamentary seat on the back of a Muslim-focused election campaign. Just last month, the British Prime Minister said: Rishi Sunak has declared in a speech to the nation that the “far right” and Islamic extremists are trying to destroy Britain’s democracy.

In response to Henry Jackson’s report, a government spokesperson said: “We recently launched a series of measures to promote social cohesion and counter religious hatred. Our plan will tackle division in our communities and ensure democratic freedoms are protected across the country. It will be.”

Further demonstrating how out of step the Muslim community is with the rest of British society, the survey found that 46% of British Muslims believe Jews have too much influence over the British government. It was also found that 16% of the population is Jewish. whole.

52% said they think it should be illegal to show pictures of Islam’s prophet Muhammad. Meanwhile, almost a third (32%) of British Muslims said they wanted Sharia law to be imposed in the UK.

Such beliefs have real-world consequences in the UK. In the UK, a former religious studies teacher from the small West Yorkshire town of Batley faced threats from Islamists after showing a caricature of Muhammad to his class during a blasphemy lesson in 2021, and is still living with his family. It’s hidden. .
