Nebraska Punter Archie Wilson Addresses Family Concerns
Archie Wilson, the new punter for the Nebraska football team, recently held his first press conference since arriving from Australia. The 19-year-old expressed his excitement about joining the team, but he also became emotional when discussing the distance from his family.
“It really suits my skill set, overall,” Wilson shared with reporters. He highlighted the supportive environment created by the coaching staff and the program itself. Although he feels somewhat familiar with American culture, he admits that adjusting to life in Nebraska has its challenges. “I knew about the program, but I didn’t quite grasp where I’d actually be living for the next four years,” he noted.
When asked about his family, Wilson’s demeanor shifted. Pausing to collect himself, he said, “Yeah, that part is tough. Sorry.” It’s clear that he deeply misses his parents and two brothers. He reassured everyone, though, that they would be visiting him to support him during his initial games.
On a lighter note, Wilson expressed enthusiasm for his upcoming debut against the Cincinnati Bear Cats on August 28. While he usually doesn’t get too nervous, he acknowledged the magnitude of playing in a big venue like Arrowhead Stadium. “I’m really excited. This is a completely different level,” he admitted.
Before joining Nebraska, Wilson played Australian Rules football at Haley Berry College and was also a member of Prokick Australia, an organization known for training punters. With the upcoming season just around the corner, he’s gearing up for what promises to be an eventful start.
As he navigates this new chapter in his life, Wilson seems committed to staying connected with his family, ensuring that their strong bond remains intact despite the distance.
