A Nebraska woman has been charged with child abuse after her baby tested positive for methamphetamine and cocaine.
Prosecutors charged Jessica Hernandez, 34, of Kearny, with child abuse resulting in injury after blood tests detected traces of drugs in the infant's system.

According to 10 11 Now, Hernandez gave birth to a baby at home on December 26, 2023. quoted Court records.
“Paramedics were called to the scene because the baby was having trouble breathing. The child was then taken to CHI Good Samaritan Hospital. According to police reports, Hernandez and the baby's father were uncooperative, and Hernandez He reportedly refused a blood test.”
Tests were performed on the baby's blood, urine and part of the umbilical cord. The baby was in the neonatal intensive care unit “equipped with a feeding tube and a CPAP machine to assist with breathing,” the report said.
Hernandez was arrested Thursday and is being held at the Buffalo County Detention Center. A hearing on the charges was pending Friday morning in Buffalo County Court. If she is convicted, she could receive up to three years in prison.
