Mekhi Nelson Arrested in Florida
Nebraska running back Mekhi Nelson was taken into custody following an altercation with his pregnant girlfriend at a Key West resort.
The arrest occurred around noon on a Monday at the Blue Flamingo Resort, where Nelson faces a misdemeanor battery charge, as reported by TMZ.
Further records obtained revealed that he has also been charged with aggravated assault involving a pregnant woman.
Police responded to a disturbance around 11:39 a.m. and encountered conflicting accounts of the situation from both parties.
The girlfriend explained to officers that Nelson became upset when he felt she was taking too long to get ready, which sparked an argument. She stated that she eventually shut him out of the room, prompting Nelson to bang on the door, leading her to worry about her stay at the resort.
Upon his return, tension escalated. As she attempted to call her mother, she claimed Nelson snatched her phone and threw it across the room. She alleged that he then tore apart her swimsuit and left scratches on her stomach during the confrontation.
On the other hand, Nelson told the police that the argument was related to a dispute involving his girlfriend and another man, and he admitted that his anger issues became particularly pronounced when discussing the other man’s behavior.
The University of Nebraska has acknowledged the incident, stating, “The Nebraska Department of Athletics and the football program are aware of Mekhi Nelson’s arrest in Florida. We have no further comment at this time.”
During the 2025 season, Nelson participated in 12 games, accumulating 27 carries for 147 yards and scoring two touchdowns, alongside 102 receiving yards.
