Neil Cavuto is not only a great TV personality, he is an even better friend

Neil Kabuto is more than just a beloved Fox News anchor, he helped me through one of my darkest moments.

About 15 years ago, when I was a reporter at CNBC, I received an offer to work for the fledgling Fox Business Network and appear on TV with Neil Kabuto.

I couldn't overlook that.

Kabuto is, of course, a symbol of television journalism.

He reported on the 1987 stock market crash, wars, and IPOs.

He interviewed movie stars and presidents.

I worked closely with him, breaking news on his Fox Business and Fox News shows, and learned what fair and balanced journalism is all about.

He was the ultimate straight shooter.

Yes, as I can fully attest, he will let you know when you do something that he thinks is out of line.

The same goes for Donald Trump, whose sometimes erratic style of governance Mr. Neal has often taken umbrage with for endorsing and attacking him.

After 28 years at Fox, Neal performed his final show on Thursday.

He is 66 years old and has been battling health issues, all the while continuing to work all day and weekends.

My guess is he's not done with our profession yet, which is a very good thing.

I remember telling Neil a few years ago that I had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Neil is also a cancer survivor.

As a journalist, he has spent many years explaining to viewers and readers of my Post columns the need for early detection, available treatments, and how they all saved my life. He encouraged me to approach this situation the same way I had approached my own health issues.

That's exactly what I did.

People still thank me for helping them get through similar situations.

I tell them to thank Neil Kabuto.
