Nelly Korda does what Scottie Scheffler couldn’t, completes trifecta at Ford Championship

Nelly Korda continues to amaze golf fans and show why she is one of the best players in the world.

She won her third straight 2024 LPGA event at the Ford Championship on Sunday. The world No. 1 player shot a bogey-free 7-under 65, beating the leader by two strokes and advancing to the final round.

This year was the year of Korda.

“Honestly, I feel like I’m in a daze,” Korda said of winning three consecutive tournaments. “I’m working on it every day — trying to stay very present… It might sound boring, but I’m just taking shot by shot and seeing where I end up.” To shoot three times in a row, it’s just a dream come true.”

She became the first athlete since Yani Tseng in 2012 to win three times by April 1. Even more impressive, Korda is the first American to do so since Joan Kerner in 1980. accomplish this featby golf statistics guru Justin Ray.

Her performance in 2024 will be historic, but Korda isn’t thinking about that aspect.

“Honestly, after last year, I was thinking about the first game in Bradenton, but last week after everything that happened at the end, and this week I just wanted to relax a little bit and just have energy. I was trying not to lose it.’ It’s there,” she said. “It’s very difficult mentally to be 100% after a win, especially when you’re playing in tough conditions.”

History doesn’t end there. According to the LPGA, Korda became the first player since Ariya Jutanugarn in 2016 to win three consecutive starts.

Korda continued to perform well on the travel day, advancing to the final round with a two-stroke lead over the leader. She put pressure on the leaders and didn’t let up on the gas all day.

It took Korda four holes to get into a rhythm, but once he did, Korda made the course look easy. The 11-time LPGA winner had three birdies on the front and turned in a 33.

Korda gained more momentum on the back nine, making four birdies in the final seven holes, including one on No. 18 that gave him a two-stroke advantage.

She had to wait to find out if 20 under was enough, and it was. The group behind her had chances, but no one was able to take advantage of the stretch to catch her.

Korda’s next event is the T-Mobile Match Play Presented by MGM Rewards event at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas.

Will they be able to achieve four consecutive wins?
