Netflix Calls Reaction to 'Neck Injury' Post on One-Year Mark of Charlie Kirk Assassination 'Ridiculous'

Netflix Responds to Controversy Over Post on Charlie Kirk’s Anniversary

Netflix has defended a recent post addressing a “neck injury,” insisting it alludes to a storyline from the UK series, The Gentlemen, and dismissed outrage as “ludicrous.” This statement comes after the company faced backlash on the one-year anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, which many interpreted as a veiled dig at the conservative figure.

A Netflix representative stated, “This post directly references a plot point from our UK series, The Gentlemen, which launched its second season on September 3. Suggestions that it has any link to sensitive real world events are inaccurate and ludicrous.” The tweet from Netflix UK’s account jokingly stated, “Nearly did himself a neck injury,” alongside an image of a male character seemingly stretching to see a woman better.

The timing of the post raised eyebrows as it coincided with September 10, the day Kirk was fatally shot while engaging in discussions at Utah Valley University.

Despite Netflix’s explanation that it was an innocent reference, many social media users questioned the coincidence of the timing. One user remarked, “Netflix knows EXACTLY what they did with that post today, that’s not a coincidence by any means.”

Another commentator pointed out the meme nature of “neck injury” references in some online circles, suggesting the timing was too convenient. Others echoed similar sentiments, asserting that they believed Netflix knew precisely what they were doing.

Conservative figure Jon Root suggested that even if the post was indeed an accident, Netflix should issue a public apology to the Kirk family. He noted that had this occurred on the anniversary of a more widely recognized event, the response would have likely been swift and severe.

As conversations about the post continued, some users criticized Netflix for not removing the post, even hours later. “Even if this was a complete mistake and coincidence, the fact that @netflix have not deleted this 6 hours later is very telling,” one commented.

Multiple users proclaimed that the post was deliberate, with assertions that Netflix intentionally referenced the incident associated with Kirk’s assassination. Many called for accountability from Netflix, urging their followers to reconsider their subscriptions in response to the incident.

In the aftermath, many Netflix subscribers voiced their intention to cancel memberships, signaling a significant reaction to the controversial post.
