Netflix struggled to get NFLers to eat Christmas football cakes

After a day filled with Christmas soccer, Netflix brought us dessert.

The only problem was that very few people wanted to eat it.

As part of the Player of the Game awards for the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce and the Ravens' Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson, the Netflix broadcast featured custom Santa-inspired sideline courts and football shapes. A cake was presented to them.

Of the four NFL stars, Kelce was the only one to participate in the postgame refreshment following Kansas City's AFC title-clinching Chiefs' 29-10 win over the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

“It tastes like very red velvet. It just fits,” he said on the Netflix broadcast immediately after his eight-catch, 84-yard performance with a touchdown. “That's good. I'll take this to the locker room and buy you a victory cake.”

Mahomes opted out but offered some for those in charge.

“I'm watching my weight for the playoffs. I'm watching my weight,” he said with a smile. “coach [Andy] Reid is ready, so let him take you. ”

Jackson and Henry treated the cake like hot potatoes, trying to get the other to take a bite.

“Red Velvet?” Jackson asked Netflix reporter Jamie Ardahl. He revealed at the beginning of the broadcast that he had sampled the cake the day before when it was frozen, but not after it had been left in the Houston heat for several hours.

“So you want a bite?” she asked.

“No,” the quarterback answered.

After forcing Eldahl to take a bite, Jackson offered several contradictory excuses when prompted by Henry.

“I'm full!” he said. “You have to eat real food and then have dessert.”

Whatever the Ravens stars ended up eating, they deserved it after beating the Texans 31-2 in Houston.

Jackson completed 10 of his 15 pass attempts for 168 yards and two touchdowns, and also gained 87 yards and one score on the ground. This further solidified his MVP candidacy and set an NFL rushing record for a quarterback in the process. In the fourth quarter, he watched backup Josh Johnson take the reins on the sideline.

As for Henry, the running back had 147 rushing yards with a touchdown and added two receptions for 18 yards.
