Netflix Subscribers Claim They Will Cancel Their Accounts Due to Recent Price Increase: 'Blatantly Greedy'

Many Netflix subscribers are choosing to cancel their subscriptions following recent price hikes. “I’m done with them,” one user expressed on social media.

A Netflix subscriber shared, “I’m fed up with the constant price increases. After being a loyal customer for years, I finally decided to cancel.” He even posted a screenshot of his cancellation on Reddit earlier this week.

“The content isn’t worth it anymore,” the user added, prompting the question, “Is anyone else canceling?”

Other Netflix users echoed these sentiments in the comments, indicating they were also planning to end their subscriptions.

One individual said, “Today was the day for me too. I’ve been a member since 2016.”

“We had to do the same,” remarked another user. “With so many services jacking up their prices, it’s a bit much. The premium plan for 4K, which is pretty standard nowadays, now costs $26.99 a month. That’s nearly $324 a year. No thanks.”

“It’s surely the priciest streaming service I have, and it’s the only one I can’t share with anyone else. At this point, it feels like they’re just being greedy. I’m done with it,” stated another subscriber.

“My wife canceled after 14 consecutive years. It was one of those expenses she hardly noticed, but when I told her the price had shot up to nearly $30 a month, she was stunned and canceled immediately. We’re not missing out on that,” another user shared.

“For me, Netflix isn’t even an option anymore,” another person chimed in. “Their content is just not good.”

Meanwhile, some individuals admitted they had already canceled their subscriptions after a previous price increase, noting that they “didn’t miss” having access to the platform post-cancellation.

“I had already stopped after the last hike. The surprising part was how quickly I forgot about Netflix,” a user remarked.

“We canceled about a year ago, and honestly, I haven’t really thought about it,” another added.

“I got rid of Netflix a few years back and haven’t missed it at all,” another person agreed, saying, “You can always subscribe for a month to catch up on what you missed.”

“I let my subscription go last year,” another revealed. “The shows I wanted to watch are gone now. I really don’t miss it.”

According to recent reports, Netflix has increased prices for all subscriptions in the U.S., with the “Standard with ads” plan now costing $8.99 per month, while the standard and premium plans without ads are $19.99 and $26.99, respectively.

For those on the Standard plan looking to add extra members, it’s now available for an additional fee of $7.99 per month with ads or $9.99 without.

“This trend isn’t just about Netflix. Companies keep hiking their prices because they know many of us will just keep paying,” a former Reddit user pointed out.

Interestingly, Netflix’s price increase follows a similar move by HBO Max, which raised its premium plan to $22.99 per month. Other services like Disney+, Peacock, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video have also announced price increases.

Last autumn, Disney+ disclosed it would increase its premium ad-free plan from $15.99 to $18.99 per month, while its ad-supported option would rise from $9.99 to $11.99.

Additionally, Peacock raised its Premium Plus tier from $13.99 to $16.99 per month, and its ad-supported plan from $7.99 to $10.99. Hulu followed suit, increasing the price of its ad-supported plan from $9.99 to $11.99, and Prime Video raised the price of its ad-free option from $2.99 to $4.99.
