Nets’ Ben Simmons injury update stemmed from same old ailment

The official name of Ben Simmons’ injury has changed, but the actual disease is the same.

The Nets point guard was initially diagnosed with leg soreness, but was diagnosed with left lumbar nerve compression and missed Monday’s 106-102 loss to Memphis.

However, the leg issue is due to years of impingement, so the team updated the list.

A source close to Simmons told the Post that the three-time All-Star is not suffering from any new obstacles, which are the same ones that have plagued him before.

He has not had or plans to undergo any new imaging tests (MRI, X-rays, etc.). He was not hit by any further gunfire.

When asked if the Nets had any new updates on Simmons, interim coach Kevin O’Ree said there was nothing.

“No. We were just trying to find out where it came from and that’s the reason for the wording change,” Ollie said. “But he’s still taking it day-to-day, he’s still on the court. Hopefully we can get him back soon and be ready for the playoffs in March and April.”

Simmons missed his 46th game of the season on Monday, having appeared in just 57 of a total of 178 games since the Nets acquired him at the 2022 trade deadline.

The Nets were beaten in a physical game, but no one was better than Dayron Sharpe.

The backup center fell hard and got back up with his wrist bent.

He was sent off with eight minutes remaining and did not return. The Nets do not have clear information on his status at this time, and it was unclear whether he would be available for Tuesday’s game against Philadelphia.

“No, we don’t have any updates right now,” Ollie said. “But we will contact the doctors and medical team. They will get Daylon back and hope he is ready to play.” [Tuesday]”

Lonnie Walker IV appeared to have twisted his ankle and was walking on ice, but then limped visibly. In response to questions from the newspaper, he said he was “fine” and expected to be available on Tuesday.

Dennis Schroder took a knee to the head during a drive and fell to the floor. He slumped for a while, but finished the game with 13 points and a game-high nine assists.

Cam Thomas missed his fourth consecutive game with a right ankle and midfoot sprain. However, he appeared to be making progress as he made a dunk during the morning shootaround. The team considers him an everyday presence.

The Grizzlies played without Ja Morant (shoulder surgery), Desmond Bane (left ankle sprain) and Jaren Jackson Jr., who was out before the game with a quad injury. did.

Monday was the deadline to sign two-way players until the end of the year. The Nets already signed 20-year-old wing Jalen Martin to a two-year, two-way contract, but added diminutive point guard Jacob Gilyard to fill another two-way spot.

Gilyard ironically was Kennedy Chandler’s successor at Memphis, but Chandler was waived and taken to the Nets (now of Long Island in the G League). The point guard will undergo a medical exam on Monday and will head directly to Long Island.

Rookie second-round pick Jalen Wilson’s three-year contract is worth about $5 million. According to HoopHype. He will make $849,000 this season, with $1.9 million partially guaranteed next season and a $2.2 million team option for the 2025-26 season.
