Nets’ Dennis Schroder drawing praise from all corners

Dennis Schroder continues to garner accolades.

The Nets point guard has appeared in 14 games and has improved since being acquired before the trade deadline.

Since arriving in Brooklyn, Schroder has averaged 14.6 points and 5.9 assists, and his teammates have noticed improved ball movement with him in the lineup.

“His court mapping, the way he operates the defense is great,” interim coach Kevin O’Ree said after Tuesday’s practice. “Since I can’t play, he’s an extension of me on the court, and for him to understand what I want and get it out there is great for our offense and defense. .”

Schroder influenced other teammates, especially center Nick Claxton.

Since Schroder’s arrival, the two have played a lot of pick-and-rolls, which has resulted in Claxton breaking out offensively. Claxton is averaging 16.6 points per game over his last five games, up from 12.3 points per game this season.

“He’s really just and handles the game right,” Claxton said of Schroder on Tuesday. “He’s a true competitor and he holds everyone accountable. He’s a winner. He’s got really good work habits and he’s in good physical shape. And we’re doing it right now. We’re trying to figure it out and everything is starting to come together. It’s tough being brought in in the middle of the season, but everything is starting to fall into place.”

Cameron Johnson, who has missed the past three games with a right ankle sprain, is likely to play in Wednesday’s game against the Magic. He practiced contact on Tuesday.

Johnson was not with the team for the first three games of the road trip, but after the team briefly returns to Brooklyn, Johnson is scheduled to participate in the final two games of the five-game road trip.

“It was great to meet Cam here. [we] I will miss him very much,” Olly said. “He trained well.” [assistant coach Adam Caporn] He trained well the day before and today as well. We will then contact the medical staff to see if his availability is suitable. [Wednesday]”

Nets owner Joe Tsai, who also owns the WNBA’s Liberty, announced Tuesday that Fox 5 New York will be its new official television partner.

The team plans to split its locally broadcast games between Fox 5 and My9 during the 2024 season.
