The Brooklyn Nets are making another coaching change.
The Nets had struggled throughout the season, going 21-33 during the NBA All-Star break and were 2.5 games out of the final spot in the play-in tournament, when the team announced Monday morning that Jacque Vaughn had been waived.
Brooklyn did not immediately name an interim head coach.
“This was an incredibly difficult decision to make, but we believe it is in the best interest of our team going forward,” Nets general manager Sean Marks said in a statement.
“Jack has represented this organization with exemplary character and integrity over the past eight years. The consistent positivity and passion he brought to our team every day has been a testament to the players he has come into contact with throughout his tenure. We thank Jack for all he has done for the Nets and the city of Brooklyn, and we wish him, Laura and their families the best of luck in the future.”
The Nets got off to a decent start with a 13-10 record, but are 8-23 in their last 31 games.
Vaughn, 49, joined the Nets as an assistant in 2016 when Kenny Atkinson was hired as head coach.
Vaughn was interim head coach in 2020 when the team fired Atkinson midway through the season.
The Nets then hired Steve Nash, who stayed with Bourne for just two seasons before being named full-time head coach.
Bourne received a multi-year contract extension last February.
The Nets’ next permanent head coach will be the fourth person hired under Marks, assuming he stays on.
