Nets have two clear choices in how to approach critical offseason

The rebuilding net has been going on for years – there’s nothing more painful – it’s generated assets.

What will the front office need to cash them out this summer?

In a rare moment of transparency, GM Sean Marks essentially said that superstars could turn them into candidates.

Otherwise, the net is drying the powder.

“You’ve always had those opportunities. When we come in, whether we do or not, those are questions that I can’t answer,” Marks said the day after Net finished its 26-56 campaign.

“If you’re chasing the biggest level of talent, they have [to] Automatically completely change the trajectory of your team. This is “Let’s get this [guy] Then it will have six to seven species. “When we all come in, you’re going to compete and compete at the highest level. ”

Players like Trae Young, Lamelo Ball, Ja Morant, and Domantas Sabonis could move.

However, changing the trajectory of the team sounds like Giannis Antetokounmpo or Bust. Or more precisely Antetokounmpo or tank.

The Nets’ first lottery since 2010 will be the foundation of the rebuild, along with the first rounds of the Bucks, Knicks and Rocket.

They paid Houston sincerely to re-acquire their choices this year and next year.

A Fruky summer where no one can spend much on anything other than the net ($45 million in cap space after hold for his own free agent and four first-round rookies), Net was able to free runs with free agents such as Josh Giddie, Jonathan Kuminga, Santiarudama, Quenting Ryme, Quenting Ryme and Tierome.

But I couldn’t do that. Like the aforementioned trade targets, these solid yet imaginary signatures simply lift the play-in team to the sixth or seventh seed rather than the competition.

Competition means Antetokounmpo. Alternatively, you can slowly build in 2026 and stack another lottery ticket.

“We need to be opportunistic,” Marks said. “In this market, we always throw a variety of different agents and opportunities at us. We’re just in the top five markets in the league. That’s likely to happen. We’ve talked a lot about being systematic and strategic in the way that’s built here.

“So, a lot of draft assets are at risk. A lot of cap rooms take. And how to use it is probably too early to decide. But there are a variety of different routes that we can go to. In the past, we’ve grown a few guys here, raised guys here, attracting first-class talent from elsewhere.”

Nowadays, gaining top-notch talent from other places is done through transactions, not through free agents.

The new, restrictive CBA has signed multiple stars like Brooklyn to essentially impossible by Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

It also makes the development of draft topics even more important within the company.

Enter Marks and assistant GM BJ Johnson, his draft lead.

“I think it’s important to have contracts with the people who are contracting contracts. You drafted them, you developed them, and they’ve reached their second contract under your watch,” Marks said. “It’s difficult if you’re trying to get the biggest level of talent on a maximum contract. Those days probably won’t be able to get two or three biggest free agents, which will be even more difficult.”

“But it’s important to have some value contracts on your roster. How do we do that? We have to get the draft right. I think our draft process has worked. We know what’s going on this year.
