Nets players try to ignore NBA trade deadline talk

The Nets have one week left until decision day.

Brooklyn’s players have seven days and three more games to convince the front office of action or inaction.

The excitement and anxiety will reach a crescendo next Thursday, but the Nets’ locker room will try to ignore the rumors flying around before the trade deadline.

“Unspoken, no one really wants to talk about everybody’s situation,” Cam Thomas said before Wednesday’s game against Kevin Durant’s Suns at Barclays Center. “Everyone’s reading something, I think [an] implicit [thing]. No one talks about such things.

“We’re just enjoying the moment here and playing together as a team. We’re playing well as a team. We’re all getting along so we’re just enjoying the moment right now. .”

The Nets entered play a half-game behind the Hawks for the final play-in spot, especially with no control over this year’s first-round pick (who belonged to the Rockets as part of the original James). Being in this position was precarious. (enhance trading).

A sale would be a shock if the most obvious motivation for the tank was missing.

The Nets have shown no signs of being a hard sell, and have already rejected a trade that would have sent Mikal Bridges from the Rockets for a package of multiple first-round picks, according to The Athletic.

According to all reports, the Nets intend to continue building their team around a talented two-way wing.

Asked if he envisioned what his team would be like after the deadline, Bridges said, “I’m just trying to control what I can control,” adding, “Trying to win as many games as possible and play as hard as possible.” “I’m working on it,” he said.

They can reduce their depth and it won’t significantly hurt their playoff chances. Spencer Dinwiddie and Royce O’Neal will be free agents after this season.

Dorian Finney-Smith is under contract until at least next season, but could be an attractive trade prospect. A strong 3-and-D wing, Finney-Smith would be a good fit for many teams in need of a shutdown defender.

The Nets could also buy and sell. Among the guards rumored to be involved are the Hawks’ Dejounte Murray and former Net and current Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell.

“People are going to get traded in the league,” Bridges said, ignoring the deadline. “You just sit here and watch.”

Finney Smith (left ankle sprain) missed his second consecutive game.

With Finney-Smith out, Thomas started his third straight game.

He joins Bridges, Dinwiddie, Cam Johnson and Nic Claxton in the opening five.
