Nets signing former lottery pick Killian Hayes

The Nets are betting on a former high draft pick.

Point guard Killian Hayes, the No. 7 overall draft pick just four years ago, has agreed to join Brooklyn on a one-year, exhibition 10 contract, sources told The Post — essentially a tryout deal.

Another source said he is expected to compete for a roster spot in training camp.

Hayes recently practiced in Las Vegas in front of the Nets and other teams.

He became a free agent after a disappointing season with the Pistons and was released by the team in February in the midst of a 14-win season.

Hayes, who turns 23 on Friday, struggled with his efficiency and 3-point shooting, especially after shooting just 27.7 percent from three-point range for his career.

Still, he has size, defensive ability and passing potential.

The rebuilding Pistons drafted Hayes five spots above Tyrese Haliburton and had him play in 145 games over four seasons.

Midway through last season, Hayes began working individually with Adam Harrington, the former Nets assistant coach who helped Kevin Durant develop.

The Nets may need to add depth at point guard behind projected starter Dennis Schroder, who is currently playing for Germany in the Olympics.

Ben Simmons is also considered a point guard, but he is not a very reliable player.

The other guards with guaranteed contracts are Cam Thomas, Shake Milton and Keown Johnson.

The Nets had Dennis Smith Jr. as their backup point guard last season, but he is a free agent and is unlikely to re-sign.

Hayes could potentially fill that vacancy, but he’ll first need to join the team at training camp in October.
