Nets struggle against Celtics in their lowest defensive performance of the season

Nets Suffer Heavy Loss to Celtics

The Brooklyn Nets faced one of their toughest nights yet, losing to the Boston Celtics in a staggering 148-111 defeat—this pitted the league’s worst defense against the best offense.

A packed TD Garden, filled with 19,156 fans, witnessed an impressive shooting performance from Boston.

This defeat marked the highest score allowed by the Nets this season, which is a bit alarming. Their shooting went down to a shocking 66.7 percent, with three-point attempts at 64.7 percent; the Celtics hit 22 of 34 from beyond the arc.

Jaylen Brown was the standout player for the Nets, notching 28 points, along with nine assists and seven rebounds. His ability to glide past defenders was certainly notable.

Brooklyn was in a somewhat decent position, trailing only 82-76 in the third quarter. But, unfortunately, they were outscored 66-35 after that point, which obviously shifted the game’s momentum dramatically.

Other notable performances included Michael Porter Jr., who added 18 points, and rookie Danny Wolfe, contributing 16 points off the bench. However, Brooklyn struggled on the boards, getting out-rebounded 39-25 and showing little defensive effort throughout the game.

The situation is pretty dire for the Nets (15-43), who have now lost seven straight games, giving them the second-worst record in the league.

Despite their struggles, Brooklyn is currently in third place in the lottery standings, improving slightly, though it’s a tough climb. They sit just two games behind Sacramento and half a game behind Indiana.

Meanwhile, the Celtics, despite being without star Jayson Tatum due to a torn Achilles, have shown remarkable resilience, taking 10 out of their last 12 games to climb into second place in the Eastern Conference.

Boston’s offensive display was quite remarkable, with Nikola Vucevic also contributing 28 points and 11 rebounds.

The Nets briefly took an 11-10 lead after a basket by Nick Claxton, but it was short-lived. They soon found themselves trailing at 16-4 and never regained the advantage.

At one point in the third quarter, the Nets were down by 79-65 but closed the gap with an 8-0 run. Still, after Noah Clowney’s three-pointer made it 82-76, things took a turn for the worse as Boston answered with 12 straight points.

As the Celtics extended their lead, the gap grew to 41 points during the final quarter—a tough sight for Nets fans.

In a positive note, former Celtics player Josh Minott made his Brooklyn debut on Thursday and had a few bright spots, showcasing some impressive passes and even adding a fast-break dunk.

Additionally, the Nets have recently signed Grant Nelson to a 10-day contract, bringing their rookie count to six. He made his NBA debut and expressed how meaningful this opportunity feels to him: “It really feels like a dream come true,” he shared.

With hopes of returning to form, he remarked, “I’m just going to do what I can to hopefully help this team win some games.” His commitment to improving after injuries is a testament to his dedication, as he looks forward to contributing more in the future.
