ABC and Disney, along with broadcast affiliate Nexstar, have decided to remove Jimmy Kimmel from all their stations following some controversial comments made by the late-night host regarding the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. Nexstar referred to Kimmel’s remarks as “aggressive and insensitive,” emphasizing a need to foster “respectful, constructive dialogue” in the current political climate.
ABC confirmed that Jimmy Kimmel Live! is “indefinitely ahead” after Kimmel’s monologue about Kirk, as reported by NBC News.
Nexstar Media Group announced that its owned and affiliated ABC stations will stop airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! starting tonight, stating their intention to prioritize other programming.
“Nexstar strongly condemns Kimmel’s recent remarks concerning Charlie Kirk’s murder and will replace his show in the ABC network,” the company stated.
Andrew Alford, chairman of Nexstar’s broadcasting division, remarked that Kimmel’s comments were both offensive and insensitive during a critical moment in American political discourse, noting they do not reflect the views of the communities they serve.
“It is not in the public’s interest to continue airing Kimmel’s show right now. We’ve made the difficult choice to pause his show in favor of promoting calmer discussions,” Alford added.
According to Breitbart News, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has threatened action against Kimmel, Disney, and ABC. Kimmel had suggested that Kirk’s assassin was affiliated with the “Magagang,” while also poking fun at President Donald Trump’s response to the incident, which included ordering the American flag to be flown at half-staff.
Reports also indicated that Tyler Robinson, who is suspected of being Kirk’s assassin, had left a message for his transgender roommate and partner.
Greg Gutfeld from Fox News reacted to Kimmel’s comments, suggesting that Kimmel’s career might be over.
“He didn’t just imply; he stated it,” Gutfeld noted regarding Kimmel. “We should check in on Kimmel and see what he’s saying about this.”
“This episode highlights a fascinating case of cognitive dissonance,” he continued. “Why is this intelligent, successful individual so disconnected? How does he cope with this level of denial?”
“When you strip away the facade, what’s left? What’s at the core of this illusion that he’s trapped in, especially concerning Trump supporters and Republicans? It paints them as the villains in his narrative,” he said.
“You’re not standing up for democracy; you’re advocating for harmful delusions,” Gutfeld asserted. “Truth be told, the person who killed Charlie Kirk might have been more of a fan of Kimmel than of Maga.”
