FDA bans soda additives over health concerns

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will ban the soda additive starting next month due to health concerns. The FDA announced Tuesday that it is withdrawing regulations that allowed brominated vegetable oil (BVO) to be used in food because it is “no longer considered safe.” The FDA noted that a study it conducted in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health “found that BVO may have adverse effects on the human body.”

House Democrats Ask Major Pharmacy Chains to Distribute Mifepristone

Following a recent Supreme Court decision upholding the drug’s current availability, House Democrats are calling on the five major pharmacy chains to make an effort to dispense mifepristone in states where it’s legal. In letters to Walmart, Safeway, Kroger, Costco and Health Mart, more than 50 House Democrats, led by Reps. Judy Chu (D-Calif.) and Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.), pressured pharmacies to acknowledge mifepristone’s legality.
