Disney fans arrived early at Downtown Disney in Anaheim on Friday, with some camping out overnight to grab the latest offerings from the company.
The excitement reached a peak when two new sets of trading cards were launched at Disney Stores worldwide.
The line outside Pin Traders, snugly located under the Disneyland Monorail, grew into an extensive series of switchbacks, extending all the way to Salt and Straw. The throng twisted and turned to keep from blocking the shopping street.
Some dedicated collectors had begun lining up as early as Thursday night. Although sales kicked off at 7 a.m., the overwhelming demand forced Disney to restrict line access until 8 a.m.
“I’ve seen large lines at Disneyland before, but this is something else. Good luck to everyone waiting for Lorcana,” remarked a witness.
Another collector expressed frustration, saying, “I’ve attended every @DisneyLorcana drop since it began here, and this is the craziest. I really doubt I’ll be able to get anything.”
The commotion wasn’t confined to California. In Disney Springs, Orlando, access to rideshare services and parking lots was blocked before 7 a.m., leaving many patrons stranded outside the venue.
In London, the scene escalated as Disney canceled the event entirely and closed its stores due to the large crowd. Police were called in to manage the situation and instructed people to disperse.
