A new restaurant by Catch Hospitality Group, known for The Corner Store that Taylor Swift loves, is set to open soon. It’s named Or’esh and will showcase a grand custom grill, costing over a million dollars, dishing out mouthwatering Levantine dishes.
Or’esh is the creation of Michelin-starred chef Nadav Greenberg, who will launch it in Soho next month. Expect to find iconic cuisines from Israel, Morocco, and Lebanon, with offerings like roasted lobster, salmon sashimi, and charred vegetables.
Chef Greenberg, who gained recognition at Eyal Shani’s Shmone, is in charge of the live-fire cooking that’s central to most menu items.
He mentioned having designed the grill himself, and restaurateur Eugene Rehm confirmed they’ve gotten the necessary city approvals— which wasn’t an easy task.
“It was quite a challenge and took a long time, but the flavors are unmatched,” said Lem.
Reflecting on the cooking method, he shared, “What I’ve learned from Nadav is that live fire cooking isn’t so precise…it’s more of an art, which makes it really unique.”
Greenberg appears thrilled about the upcoming launch. He’s confident that, “I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s one of a kind,” referencing the grill. “It’s essentially a Ferrari. It doesn’t get better than this.”
Or’esh is conveniently located on Broadway near Prince Street, not too far from The Corner Store. This will be Catch’s third restaurant in 17 months, following the success of The Corner Store and The Eighty-Six, which has its charm from the historic Chumley’s/Frog Club known for its literary patrons, including Hemingway.
While still under construction, the vision for Or’esh is evident. They’ve made significant changes, like taking down walls and adding soundproofing, to ensure a cozy atmosphere.
“For me, sound is crucial in a restaurant,” Lem stated. “When you’ve put in so much effort, the last thing you want is a painfully loud environment. We invested in soundproofing to create a warm, inviting space.”
He emphasized that the design includes beautiful banquettes, avoiding cramped tables that compromise comfort for capacity.
Or’esh will accommodate 75 guests and has a private dining room for 15 to 30 people with its own entrance.
And don’t forget about that impressive grill.
Chef Greenberg expressed the art of cooking with fire: “You can’t control it perfectly; one moment it’s hot, the next it’s not. Cooking is the only art form that engages all your senses.”
The unique flavors promised are thanks to the custom grill. Lem estimates its cost to be around seven figures but remains tight-lipped about the exact amount.
“Even a simple branzino can have a completely different flavor profile when grilled with salt, or by incorporating smoky bones into a sauce, or even by smoking tomatoes and stracciatella with sage,” highlighted Greenberg.
