Updated at 4:15 p.m.: Pablo Policicchio, a spokesman for the Buenos Aires City Security Ministry, said singer Liam Payne “threw himself from the balcony of his room.”

Polisicchio said authorities received a call from the hotel about an “aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.” When they arrived, they found his body in the hotel courtyard.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the national emergency medical system, said of the situation in Argentina: Todo Noticias TV Authorities said an autopsy and investigation into the circumstances of his death were underway. He declined to comment further on the incident, including answering whether Payne fell accidentally or jumped from the balcony.
3:19pm – A former member of One Direction has died outside a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31 years old.
Authorities were called to the Casasul Palermo Hotel on Wednesday after Payne allegedly fell from a third-floor balcony. The details of whether it was intentional or an accident are not yet known.
Payne was in Argentina earlier this month for a concert with former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan.
Payne came under fire earlier this week after reports emerged that Liam's ex-fiancée Maya Henry had split with him after she requested an abortion. Her lawyer sent Ms. Payne a cease-and-desist letter ordering her to stop contacting Henry.
An investigation is currently underway. More details will be revealed in the coming days.
