For NFL teams’ social media departments, the annual schedule release has become the Super Bowl. Over the years, teams like the Los Angeles Chargers, Atlanta Falcons, and Carolina Panthers, to name a few, have created very creative videos to announce upcoming games.
This year, the New England Patriots went to Hollywood for inspiration. Or, perhaps more accurately, Hollywood’s vision for the Boston area. In a schedule release video titled “Good Jule Hunting,” the Patriots will be playing “The Good Jule Hunting,” which stars Julian Edelman as Matt Damon, Rob Gronkowski as Ben Affleck, and Ernie Adams as Robin Williams. A video parodying “Good Will Hunting” was released. Renowned analyst Evan Lazar also makes a cameo appearance. patriots.com:
Perhaps the best part? At the end of the video, there is a reference to another Affleck movie about the Boston area, “The Town.”
No doubt Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzula would appreciate the outcome.
