New footage of Caitlin Clark’s foul on Angel Reese appears as the rivalry intensifies

Missed Calls Spark Controversy

A recent video has surfaced, shedding light on the heated incident involving Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. The footage captures Reese pushing from behind during a moment with Natasha Howard before Clark makes a hard foul against her.

It’s clear Reese committed a foul, but the specifics of it weren’t fully acknowledged at the time. Clark even gestures to indicate where the push happened.

Reese snagged a rebound and rushed toward the basket when Clark knocked her down with a tough foul, which quickly became a major talking point.

This new perspective helps clarify the events that led to the foul, showing how it prevented Clark from scoring easily.

Clark, reflecting on the incident after their intense 93-58 opening game, remarked, “Don’t make it something that it isn’t. It was just a good basketball play. I don’t know what the referee saw to escalate it. Their call is their call. It was a foul that sent them to the line. I’ve watched a lot of basketball.”

As for Reese, she’s not exactly enthused about the call.

After taking the foul, she attempted to confront Clark, but Clark turned away, creating a tense moment as the referee and Indiana’s Aaliyah Boston moved to address the situation.

Clark received a foul for her actions, while Boston and Reese were assessed offsetting penalties.

Later on, Reese played down the foul’s significance. She achieved a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds, while Clark shined with a triple-double, netting 20 points, along with 10 rebounds and assists each.

Reese summarized the ordeal: “Basketball play, the referee got it right, let’s move on.” This incident adds another layer to the ongoing rivalry between Reese and Clark, which has roots in their college careers.

Reese notably made headlines earlier for using John Cena’s “You Can’t See Me” gesture after LSU triumphed over Iowa in the national championship last year. However, Iowa eliminated LSU from the tournament the following year, and Clark has seen more success, while Reese’s trajectory hasn’t been as prominent since being the first pick in the 2024 draft.

Clark was named Rookie of the Year last season, outperforming Reese.

The fallout from Saturday’s game extended to allegations of racial comments made by a fan towards Reese, prompting an investigation by the WNBA.

The league stated, “The WNBA strongly condemns racism, hatred, and discrimination in all forms. Such behavior has no place in our league or society. We are aware of the allegations and are looking into the matter.”
