New GOP bill would ban the use of autopen for presidential pardons

First on FOX: House Republicans are beginning an effort to ban the “irresponsible” use of autopensions to sign the president's pardon a few days after President Donald Trump declared “invalid” for former President Joe Biden after being signed through a mechanical device.

Rep. Buddy Carter R-Ga. will introduce the integrity of signatures to grant national amnesty (signing) acts on Friday, first sharing with Fox News Digital, demanding that the sitting president be banned from banning the use of machine-signed signatures such as Autoopen.

“Biden's use of an autopen should automatically override the president's amnesty,” Carter told Fox News Digital in a statement. “The Sign Pardons Act restores the integrity of this important role in our judicial system, ensuring that all pardons are physically signed by the commander.”

The Republican-led law comes days after President Trump declared Biden's 11-hour presidential pardon “open” after it allegedly signed through Autoopen, a machinery that allows him to replicate signatures.

“The irresponsible use of this technology raises questions about who actually ran the country during Biden's term,” Carter added. “If Biden outsourced this constitutional duty to staff and machines, what other major decisions did he not lose?

A report released by Arm of the Heritage Foundation claims that the majority of official documents signed by Biden are said to be Autoopen signatures.

Trump claimed in a true social post Sunday night that Biden was unaware of the pardon signed on the last day of his term.

“The “pardon” that sleepy Joe Biden gave to the Select Committee of political thugs and many others is declared to be void and vacant, and more power and effect due to the fact that they were made by an autopen,” Trump said in the Social Post of Truth.

“In other words, Joe Biden didn't sign them, but more importantly, he knew nothing about them! The required relentless document was not explained or approved by Biden.

According to the White House, Trump does not use an autopen to sign legally binding documents such as amnesty.

Fox News Digital this week called for Energy Watchdog Group to protect the future and send a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate whether Biden has signed an energy-related executive order via Autoopen, investigating whether such actions “enacted the knowledge of the president.”

The Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel held in 2005 that the president was allowed to use an autopen to sign the bill to the law, and the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit issued a ruling in February stating that it was “not equivalent to proof that no writing occurred.”
