Fox's first appearance: Freshman Republican Sen. Jim Banks of Indiana has been at loggerheads with Democrats over his comments that Trump is trying to delay confirmation hearings for his nominees, particularly Pentagon pick Pete Hegseth.
Banks urged Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) to proceed with Hegseth's confirmation hearing, scheduled for January 14, as scheduled and not be swayed by Democratic demands. I asked for it.
“As you know, the senators who oppose Mr. Hegseth's nomination at all costs are seeking to delay and deny President Trump's early confirmation as Secretary of Defense. If successful, this would be a critical transition for the nation. “It would undermine America's national security at a time when it could take power later this month,” he wrote to Wicker on Wednesday.

The Republicans' letter comes after his committee colleague, Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), sent his own letter to Mr. Wicker and said the committee needs more information from candidates to properly consider them. It was submitted after claiming that a lot of information and documents were needed.
“The Senate Armed Services Committee has appointed Pete Hegseth to this vital position without sufficient information regarding his ability and experience to lead our nation's military and manage a budget of approximately $850 billion,” Blumenthal said. “I am deeply concerned that he is considering the nomination of a person,” he said, referring to the allegations. Hegseth allegedly mismanaged his finances while leading a nonprofit for veterans.
The Connecticut Democrat went on to say that “Mr. Hegseth's actions while leading these organizations, the only civilian management experience of his career, cannot be considered in good conscience. I do not understand how this committee could consider Mr. Hegseth's nomination on that basis.”

Blumenthal said he requested review of additional documents by Hegseth “including credit card transactions and other use of resources.”
The Democratic Party also claimed that Mr. Hegseth “refuses to meet with me and my Democratic colleagues ahead of his nomination hearing.”
But a source told Fox News Digital that Hegseth reached out to Democrats about a meeting in early to mid-December. The only Democrat willing to comply was Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania), with whom he met last month.

The others waited until several days before the scheduled Jan. 14 hearing to respond, officials said. As with any candidate of this type, Hegseth will spend several days preparing for his hearing.
In a letter to Wicker, Mr. Banks slammed Mr. Blumenthal's demands. “Senator Blumenthal's letter to you and other members of the committee is the latest attempt to accomplish their goals. In his letter, he defends America's veterans. Sen. Blumenthal's letter raises unsubstantiated and anonymous accusations against Hegseth as leader of the two organizations, stating that veterans who have worked professionally with Hegseth support his nomination. “Facts have been intentionally omitted,” he wrote.

Republicans acknowledged Mr. Blumenthal's right to question Mr. Hegseth on the floor and ultimately object to his confirmation. But “he has no right to delay the important work of the military committees for the national security of the United States,” Banks said.
Wicker did not immediately comment to Fox News Digital.
