A mother and former special education teacher from New Jersey was visibly emotional as she received a 12-year prison sentence for raping a 15-year-old student she had become “obsessed” with. This occurred during a court session where the victim shared an emotional statement.
Allison Havemann-Niedrach, age 45 and a former instructor at Freehold Intermediate School, broke down while the victim addressed the court just before the sentencing on Friday, according to reports.
The student, who has not been identified, described their months-long relationship as “like a nightmare” and expressed his hope that no one else would undergo a similar ordeal.
“For two or three years, I thought it was my fault,” he confessed to the court.
“I forgive her for what she did,” he added, which prompted tears from the former teacher.
Prosecutors indicated that Havemann-Niedrach was “obsessed” with the student.
In her statement, Havemann-Niedrach said, “I apologize profusely for my actions. I am moved by his forgiveness.”
She, a mother of two, pleaded guilty in January to sexually assaulting the boy over six months in 2024, while he was in eighth grade.
Authorities began their investigation after the school’s vice principal raised concerns regarding her behavior with the student. Allegedly, another teacher had seen her touching the boy inappropriately, leading to red flags.
The boy’s mother became worried when she learned from his sister that he had been seen in the teacher’s car and on his phone late at night.
Havemann-Niedrach reportedly sent the teen an astounding 25,000 messages.
The boy, who had bragged to peers about dating his teacher, eventually revealed to police that he had engaged in a sexual relationship with her after his mother took him to the police station.
State Superior Court Judge Jill G. O’Malley was direct in her words as she handed down the sentence.
“You are his trauma. You ruined him,” she asserted sternly.
According to the judge, the abuse had severe repercussions, leading the boy to contemplate suicide before confiding in his mother.
As part of a plea deal, Havemann-Niedrach is required to serve at least 85% of her sentence. She will also be registered as a sex offender and has lost her teaching certifications.
Furthermore, Judge O’Malley mandated that she is never to contact the victim or his family again.
