A woman from New Jersey faced charges for obstruction after authorities discovered her missing son hiding in a crawl space in their home. The situation unfolded when the 17-year-old boy’s father reported that his son was absent during a scheduled drop-off. The boy’s mother, Jennifer Buckley, informed the police that she couldn’t find him and that he wasn’t at her house.
According to reports, Buckley expressed concerns that her son might be a danger to himself and mentioned that he did not want to go to his father’s home.
The East Brunswick Police Department stated they launched a significant effort to find the teenager, involving patrol officers and detectives who dedicated considerable resources to the search. Their investigation included entering the juvenile’s details into the National Crime Information Center, which revealed inconsistencies in Buckley’s statements.
After conducting a thorough search of the residence, officers found the boy in a crawl space in the basement. It turned out he had been there the entire time, and evidence suggested that Buckley had helped hide him.
Fortunately, there was no indication that the boy had been harmed in any way. Following the events, Buckley was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice.
East Brunswick Police Chief Frank LoSacco emphasized the seriousness with which they approach reports of missing juveniles, especially when there are safety concerns. He acknowledged the diligent work of the police personnel involved in ensuring the boy’s safety, stating that providing false information undermines their efforts.
