New Jersey trains are back to full service after a strike disrupted the nation’s third busiest commuter railroad, leading to chaos.

Early Tuesday, train services in New Jersey were fully restored following the conclusion of the engineer’s strike.

For countless commuters on both sides of the Hudson River, the travel disruption that had caused significant inconvenience came to an end around 4 a.m. when trains resumed regular operation.

This resumption of services was made possible after New Jersey Transit reached a temporary agreement with the locomotive engineers’ union late Sunday night. However, on Monday, some people were still leaving the train due to ongoing issues.

The deal between the state and the union was finalized just days after intense negotiations, indicating that the union would resume work on Friday.

It’s noteworthy that the engineers had been without a contract since 2019, marking the first strike of this kind from the union in over 40 years.

New Jersey Transit has announced that additional bus services that were in place during the strike will no longer be available from local park-and-ride locations.
