New Manchester City signings Savinho and Miedema excited by fresh challenges | Manchester City

Manchester City new signing Savinho vowed to write his own chapter in the club’s history books when he was presented alongside Vivienne Miedema. The 20-year-old Brazilian winger joins from Troyes on a five-year contract after starring on loan at Girona last season, helping the Spanish side qualify for the Champions League.

Savigno revealed he idolised former City star Riyad Mahrez as a child and chose to wear the Algerian’s number 26 shirt at the Etihad.

“I’m really happy and honoured to be here and can’t wait to put the shirt on and go onto the pitch and show what I can do,” he said. “I feel part of this team and I’m going to play my best football for Manchester City.”

“All I want is to continue to improve by working hard with my coaches and teammates. I was happy to qualify for the Champions League with Girona and now I’m focused on Manchester City.”

“This is a new page in our history and I’m delighted to be playing in the Champions League with Manchester City. I want to build on what I achieved last season with Girona.”

“Mahrez has been my role model since I was a child. For sure, there are similarities in the way we play. He made history here but Mahrez is Mahrez and Savinho is Savinho. Now it’s my turn to make history here.”

Savinho was introduced to City fans at the Etihad Stadium, alongside Miedema, who had joined from Arsenal.

The Dutch striker has scored 106 goals in the WSL during his seven years with the north London club and will be hoping to help City win the title after losing it to Chelsea on goal difference last season.

“Individual awards are nice but I’m here to win something with City,” she said. “They’ve played some great football over the last few years and it’s been very close so hopefully I can help the girls with my experience. It’s really exciting and I’m looking to step up my game this season.”

The 28-year-old Miedema will form a fearsome attacking force alongside Khadija Shaw, who scored 21 goals last season before her campaign was cut short by injury.

“She’s got a lot of talent. We all have different abilities but I think they’ll fit in really well,” Miedema said, “and with Lauren Hemp and Chloe Kelly here I think we’ll have a lot of opportunities to score.”
