of University of New Mexico According to multiple reports, an incident involving two members of the men's basketball team is being investigated. In the incident, one player allegedly punched the other on a plane seat last month.
A walk-on player for the Lobos basketball team was allegedly punched in the shoulder by a scholarship player while the team was traveling to Palm Springs for the Acresure Classic just before Thanksgiving. KOB 4 reported after speaking with the family of the alleged victim.

Neither player's name has been disclosed.

The family said the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over where the walk-on was seated on the plane. He also claimed that he was hit in the shoulder, which was already injured, and that he was in a sling, and that he was later treated at an Albuquerque hospital when the team returned.
The player's family claimed that a similar incident involving the athlete occurred at a hotel on the same day.
The alleged victim reportedly claimed that he told the coaching staff about the incident but nothing was done.

Attorney representing walk-on player told KRQE After the incident occurred, the scholarship student was reportedly allowed to participate in two games.
Representatives from the university told Fox News Digital in a statement that they are investigating the incident.
“The University of New Mexico takes the safety and well-being of all students very seriously. We are aware of the alleged incident involving a member of the men's basketball team and have carefully considered all the facts. “We are evaluating the situation,” it said in a statement.

Head coach Richard Pitino did not provide further details during Monday's press conference.
“There's not much I can say. Disciplinary issues are being dealt with internally, but other than that there's not much I can say specifically.”
