New Mexico Democrat says 'This is not normal' sign at Trump address was 'an SOS to the world'

In an interview, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (DN.M.) said her “this is not normal” signs she supported President Trump near Trump just before her speech to Congress Tuesday night was a “SOS to the world.”

Stansbury said it was “really important” not to “normalize” what Trump and his administration are doing.

“He's dismantling federal agencies. He's dismissing thousands of federal workers. They're dismissing veterans, teachers and the military, they're hurting our community, and he's at the same time comfortable with our foreign enemies,” Stansbury, who represents New Mexico's No. 1 district, said during Wednesday's appearance on CNN.

“I think it's important that we don't normalize this behavior, so I just say my signature is the SOS of the world and I've told you what I meant,” House Democrats added.

Stansbury was one of many House Democrats who protested Trump's joint speech to Congress in a variety of ways.

The New Mexican Democrats were standing along the aisle when Trump entered the room. She held up a handwritten sign saying, “This is not normal.”

As Trump passed, Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas), who greeted the president, reached across the aisle, snatched and dumped the signs of Stansbury.

“I don't think my Republican colleagues are used to the facility right now, but I welcome the Trump world. We live in Magalland now,” Stansbury told CNN on Wednesday.

Early in his hour-and-thirty-minute speech, Trump was wrapped up in Texas Democrats after the commander bragged about this 2024 presidential election victory.

“You have no obligation,” cried Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) as his speech stopped. After the lawmakers refused to sit down after refusing to sit, speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) instructed the Army to escort the sergeant to escort the Democrats of the house as loud applause continued from GOP lawmakers.

“I realized there's absolutely no way I can say I can make them happy, stand, smile, or praise them,” Trump said Tuesday night.

“We have been able to find cures for the most devastating illnesses: diseases that wipe out the whole nation and announce the answers to the biggest economy in history. And these people sitting here don't applause, hold back, or cheer for these astronomical achievements,” the president added when he saw the side of the room where the Democrats sat.
