A married New Mexico substitute teacher accused of child sex crimes reportedly asked her principal to keep her husband a secret when she was caught kissing a student near campus.
Michaela Ford, 30, a substitute student at Estancia High School, was arrested Friday on seven charges, including sexual penetration and sexual contact with a minor. KOAT Action 7 News reported.
She was allegedly seen kissing an underage student near a middle and high school on Nov. 6, according to court records obtained by local media.
School officials then checked surveillance cameras on campus and found footage of the alleged encounter, court documents said.
When confronted about this, Ford reportedly told the principal not to tell her husband: KRQE reports.
According to the school district, the substitute teacher had been with the district for less than a month before the incident.
Estancia City Schools said in a statement obtained by KOAT that she was immediately removed from the students.
“Estancia City Schools is disturbed to learn of the alleged arrest of a former substitute teacher in the district. The district is working closely with law enforcement to ensure a complete investigation.” the school district said. “Student safety is our top priority.”
Details of Ford's alleged sexual misconduct and the age of the victim were not disclosed.
